Clubhouse History

In February 2012, a meeting was held at the Tall Trees Retirement Village in Redland Bay. The object of the gathering was to establish interest in the formation of a Men’s Shed in Redland Bay for men in the local area.  The result was that the Redland Bay Men’s Shed was formed in late March 2012 with 9 members.

We were offered the use of a small timber shed located at the rear of the Retirement Village and within 12 months our member numbers had outgrown the shed’s capacity.  We needed larger premises and although our aim for the future was to have our very own building, we eventually found a temporary home in a shed at the back of the Bayside South RSL Sub-Branch in Redland Bay.  The RSL kindly allowed us the use of the  facilities and meeting room.

In early 2015 the site in Donald Road was identified and by July 2015 a Permit to Occupy had been issued.

It took 3 years to complete the building and our Shed was officially opened in November 2018.  The ceremony was attended by our representatives from all 3 levels of Government and the ribbon was cut.  We finally had a Shed to call our own.

A photo of the new shed is shown below and to the right.

Our  Home - The Shed

The Shed opened in November 2018.  The front section comprises of a main function room , a kitchen, an office and toilet facilities.  As most of our members are of retirement age, our building was designed with in mind so our doorways and facilities are wheelchair friendly.

The rear section consists of a wash room, store room, the main work area, metal work area, wood turning area and a separated area comprising a small welding area, a section for the air compressor and an elevated mezzanine storage area for timber.
